It’s been four days of rehearsals in the mysterious hanger, as General Dynamics Corp. subsidiary Gulfstream unveiled its next-generation wide-cabin business jet, the G650, this morning! This magnificent jet promises longer range than past models and offers a new alternative in one of the fastest-growing aircraft markets.

The G650 is capable of traveling up to 7,000 nautical miles, roughly equal to the distance between New York City and Beijing, at a speed of 0.85 mach. The previous G550 model, could travel just 6,750 nautical miles at the same speed, but with a top speed of 0.925 mach, the G650 is also set to become the fastest civil aircraft flying.

If you’re a fan of flight, then you realize how monumental this announcement is in aviation history! To pack the punch, Paul Mazo and his Stage Front Production Systems team produced an extravagant sound and light show that looked like a small Rolling Stones concert! Filmming with the beautiful Panasonic AJ-HDX 900 cameras supplied by VER (Video Equipment Rentals) was great! My camera had an incredibly smooth telephoto Digi Power 66 Lens by Fujinon! Doing a shoot like this is very exciting, because as a live broadcast (globally on the internet) you’ve only got one chance to get the shot, and when you’ve got the Chairman and CEO of General Dynamics, Nicholas D. Chabraja, on the receiving end of your lens, it better look great! We recorded straight to the FS-100 160GB drives for true uncompressed HD 1080i image quality.

Gulfstream will take its first orders on April 15, and expects to deliver its first G650 in 2012 at $58.5 million each. Photograph by Trevor Jenkins
