What season are we in?  It’s hot.  It’s cold.  Back to hot.  Does it matter?  It’s springtime and the Savannah Music Festival remains a consistently hot ticket!  We were honored again to provide the music video coverage for the 2012 Swing Central Jazz program: one of the best music-for-youth programs in America!   Jazz heavies Ron Westray, Jim Ketch, Dave Styker, Marcus Roberts, John Clayton, Jason Marsalis (to name a few), mentor high school musicians from across the country! Plus we provided coverage of “Stringband Spectacular” featuring Mike Marshall, banjo master Tony Trischka, Julian Lage and Bruce Molsky and it was, well, nothing short of….spectacular! It was one gorgeous night at the Lucas Theater!  Special thank you to Director of Education and Production Ricardo Ochoa for coordinating, and we wish him super success in his new adventures!

Photographing the ship launch for Wallenius Wilhemsen Logistics’ new Parsifal roll-on at the GA Ports was a sort of homecoming.   I grew up touring ports, dry docks, and ships (or “lakers” in the Great Lakes), with my father, a mariner and consultant in the marine industry, who served as Captain in the British Merchant Marines.  Our lineage is a long history of Captains and Commodores (even the women served in the seafaring side of things during the 1st and 2nd World War).  When I called Dad to tell him we were on a shoot for WWLogistics launching their new ship he was pretty ecstatic, as was I.  At the 98 studio we are very thankful to have a variety of Clients who keep our world constantly colorful and today’s colors were definitely shades of home.  Thank you to Samantha Noon for her motion slideshow editing and 2nd Camera Matt Allen for some beautiful images.  Thank you to Kaufman-Heinz LLC for the opportunity and for setting the stage for a great event for GA industry.

We won our first ADDY Award for the St. Vincent’s Academy video! The promotional spot received ADDY Bronze for Interactive Media at the AAF Savannah Award gala. “And now we’re faced with time in a penitentiary. Slow the pace ‘cuz we’re gonna get there eventually.” – Ted Bowne, title track for ‘Start From Scratch‘.  A welcome call to action in the changed world we’re growing in: economically, socially, technologically.  Last year seems decades away.  Ten year markers that defined generations are getting shorter in western culture (i.e. an 18 year old is a totally different generation from a 23 year old).  Try explaining a world without Facebook, iPhones or mp3s to a teenager and you look like you’re from Noah’s ark.   It’s a world racing for the next moment, the next big thing, the next toy, while tripping over it’s own feet in confusion.   Slow down.  Be where you are.  Now is the time to ‘Start From Scratch’, or start from where you are as Pema Chodron might suggest (thanks and much love to Stephanie Jones for that lesson).

Before embarking on the Vans Warped Tour; we worked with the band and Brenden Robertson to document their performance at Live Wire Music Hall.  They premiered many tracks from the new album (which debuted at #1 on the iTunes reggae chart – #2 was Bob Marley ‘Legend’) and undoubtedly the band has started from scratch.  They’ve exploded their hooks, sweetened their rhythm, challenged their lyrics, and changed their ensemble (with keyboardist Mike DeGuzman).  The result is a sound so fresh as a thaw after an ice cold winter, with the burdens of modern of life transforming into a finely crafted, and very catchy, reggae rock adventure.

Who on earth actually knows where we are in time and space?  It’s one day at a time.  Take a deep breath and start from scratch.
